Why an Online Major in Sports Management?
Think the sports business can’t get any bigger? Think again. In the coming years, the global sports industry is poised to grow by 5%, with increased revenues of more than 100 billion dollars. All of that revenue means more investment in merchandising, sponsorships, ticket sales, media, rights, and more — as well as more jobs in every one of those areas.
The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) projects that entertainment and sports occupations could see as much as 13% growth over the next few years. That’s more than twice the average rate for all occupations. The sports sponsorship market alone could grow by an incredible 73% in the same time frame (A new rule that says student athletes can profit from the use of their name, image, and likeness has created a new billion dollar market in the U.S.).
Over the rest of the decade, sports promotion and marketing positions could grow by 10%, convention and event planners could grow by 18%, and jobs for coaches and scouts could increase by as much as 20%. A degree in sports management can help you take advantage of these trends, preparing you for jobs in a field you’re truly passionate about.

2 Courses in 7½ Weeks: The Online Module
Online learning has made fantastic strides in the last few years, but to many people, it can still seem unfamiliar. At Monroe, we understand that, which is why we offer the chance to sample online learning before committing to a full course of study.
The online module is a 7½-week program — just half the length of a standard semester. In that time, you can take two (2) classes to give online learning a try. Then, if you decide to continue your studies, your credits apply seamlessly whether you attend online or on campus.
Introduction to Sports Management and Marketing
Major and minor league sports, sporting goods companies, sports marketing and management — they’re all important segments of a thriving sports industry. In this course, students explore the fundamentals of sports marketing and promotions, ticket sales, sports-related public relations, events management, concession management, and facility management; and they examine the relationships between these various aspects of the sports business.
Admission Requirement
Applicants to the online sports management program must submit:
- Either a high school graduation credential or high school equivalency diploma, or a recognized college associate degree or higher as listed in the transfer admissions policy.
- A completed application for admission, as well as a personal statement or essay.
Applicants also participate in a pre-admission interview.
Tuition and Financial Aid
Whether online or on campus, we believe your education should be affordable — and we work hard to make that belief a reality. It’s why U.S. News and World Report has named us one of the Best Value Schools among Regional Universities North for years.
In addition to competitive tuition and fees and manageable payment plans, we offer financial aid resources that will support you through every step of your education. We pair every Monroe student with a dedicated financial aid officer. Their job is to find you every grant, scholarship, and loan that’s available to you — even ones you never knew existed. Students employed by one of our more than 400 partner organizations may even qualify for a Corporate Partnership Grant that can cover up to 20% of tuition.
