According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), entertainment and sports occupations could see as much as 13% growth over the next few years, more than twice the average rate for all occupations. Management positions in promotions and marketing could grow by 10%, convention and event planners might see an 18% increase, and positions for coaches and scouts could increase by as much as 20%.
A new billion dollar market has emerged in the U.S. — as of 2021, student athletes can now profit from the use of their name, image, and likeness (NIL). It’s just one of the reasons the sports sponsorship market in North America could grow by an astonishing 73% by the end of the decade.
Around the world, the sports market as a whole looks to expand by 5% in the coming years, with increased revenues projected to be over 100 billion dollars. That translates to enormous job growth in areas like merchandising, ticket sales, sponsorships, media rights, and more — the very things our Sports Management training will help prepare you to do.

How Long Does It Take to Get an Associate Degree in Sports Management?
We designed the AAS in Sports Management as a four (4)-semester program. On Monroe’s three (3)-semester academic calendar, full-time students could complete their degree in less than a year and a half.
Sports Management Degree Requirements:
- 60 total credits
- 12 credits of major-related courses
- 18 credits of major-area component courses
- 30 credits of general education and related courses
The School of Business and Accounting also offers fully online and hybrid programs for students who prefer the flexibility of online classes.

Sports Operations and Facility Management
Whether you’re dealing with community recreation centers or 50,000-seat arenas, funding, building, and operating sporting facilities — and the events they host — all take an incredible amount of research and analysis. In this course, students will examine the methodologies of business, management, marketing and project management as they pertain to sports operations and facilities.
Admission Requirements
Applicants to the Sports Management Associate Degree program must submit:
- Either a high school graduation credential or high school equivalency diploma, or a recognized college associate degree or higher as listed in the transfer admissions policy.
- A completed application for admission, as well as a personal statement or essay.
Applicants also participate in a pre-admission interview.

The Sports Management Associate Degree program allows students the option to pursue an internship in the New York City metro area. Between 5 major sports leagues, 14 professional sports franchises, and countless collegiate sports programs and major annual sporting events, there’s no shortage of opportunities. In years past, our students have found internship placements with:

Sports Management majors can also earn experience right on campus. Monroe is home to both Division I and Division III NJCAA sports programs. There are also several clubs and professional organizations where Sports Management students can expand their horizons:
- Monroe’s Sports Management Club hosts job fairs, mock interviews, guest lectures, and fundraising and volunteering opportunities for students. In the past, the Sports Management Club has sent member delegates to the MLB Diversity Business Summit, all of whom received at least one internship offer from a major league team.
- The National Association of Black Accountants, Inc. (NABA) sponsors regional student conferences, scholarship opportunities, and an online career center for Black students entering the accounting, finance, and business professions.
- The Association of Latino Professionals for America (ALPFA) provides workshops, scholarship opportunities, and internship opportunities with hundreds of Fortune 1000 companies for Latino men and women.
- Monroe’s Club for Entrepreneurial Opportunities (CEO) promotes social responsibility in entrepreneurship, sponsoring networking events, career awareness fairs, community events, and company conferences throughout the year.
- The Delta Mu Delta International Honor Society in Business offers peer-to-peer networking opportunities for distinguished students and alumni. DMD also awards dozens of scholarships each year to students in its member chapters.
