Arleny Abreu, a dedicated resident of New Rochelle, found the convenience and flexibility of Monroe University’s hybrid schedule to be the perfect fit while balancing a full-time job.
The challenging yet rewarding thesis process in the Master of Public Health program was made easier with the support she received from her professors. Their guidance was instrumental in her success, providing Arleny with the necessary resources and encouragement to persevere.
Graduating in 2019, Arleny’s degree and experiences at Monroe played a crucial role in shaping her career. Today, she is a professor at both CUNY and SUNY colleges. She is also working as a Communicable Disease Investigator for the Department of Health in Westchester County. Her role involves addressing cases of STDs, HIV, and other communicable diseases, contributing significantly to improving public health.
Arleny’s extensive experience as a Medical Assistant for over a decade influenced her decision to pursue public health. She valued the preventative aspect of healthcare, finding it more cost-effective and impactful in reducing health inequalities. Additionally, her role as a Health Educator furthered her passion for teaching and promoting health education.
She advises current students to remain open-minded and flexible, ensuring that their chosen degree aligns with their true interests. With aspirations to pursue a PhD in the future, Arleny’s journey at Monroe has undoubtedly laid a strong foundation for her career, enabling her to make a meaningful impact in the field of public health.
