Bergite Musaj
“Dream big, and let Monroe help you achieve those dreams."
When Bergite moved to the United States from Kosovo, she faced many uncertainties. Living in the neighborhood, she was drawn to Monroe’s welcoming atmosphere. She enrolled in the Criminal Justice program and graduated with a Bachelor’s in Criminal Justice with a minor in the Honors Program.
During her time at Monroe, Bergite immersed herself in numerous activities. She joined the Mock Trial Club, Amnesty International Club, and became one of the first Monroe Student Ambassadors. Her involvement didn't stop there; she interned at the New York State Assembly, igniting her passion for local politics and campaigns.
Post-graduation, Bergite joined AmeriCorps with Jumpstart, aiding young children with their reading and comprehension skills, specifically in underserved communities. Post graduation, she became the Jumpstart Site Manager at NYU, a role she discovered through Monroe's network.
Shortly after, Bergite worked in the U.S. Department of Justice Counterterrorism Sector, where the analytical and writing skills learned at Monroe helped her excel. She then transitioned to the Private Sector, becoming a Senior Consultant at Booz Allen Hamilton, working as a contractor for the U.S. government. Her analyses have been shared with top government officials and has been included in the President’s Daily Brief (PDB), showcasing the impact of her work.
Bergite mentions how the incredibly supportive environment at Monroe amounts to her success. The small class sizes, approachable professors, and close knit community helped her overcome the challenges of adapting to a new country and even learning in a new language.
Her achievements caught the attention of President Jerome, who invited her to speak on behalf of Monroe to Congress members. "Monroe professors and students turned into family," she says, emphasizing the importance of creating a circle of trust and taking advantage of every opportunity available.
