Darnell Williams
“I wouldn't be where I am today without the entire Monroe staff. Thank you.”
Encouraged by a hometown friend who was attending Monroe and after a conversation with the baseball coach, Darnell flew out to join the team and begin a new chapter in both his academic and athletic career.
The support system at Monroe played a crucial role in Darnell's adjustment. His professors answered his questions, and broke down complex concepts, making his learning experience both manageable and enjoyable.
Darnell's senior year was pivotal. With the help of his career services advisor, he secured an internship with the New York Department of Probation in the Juvenile Sector. This experience solidified his desire to work with juveniles, and he credits Monroe with helping him find his passion.
Darnell graduated with a Bachelor's in Criminal Justice and returned to the Virgin Islands working in various roles, including Security, Clinical Supervisor and Human Services Program Director. Today, Darnell is the Chief Program Coordinator at the Office of the Adjutant General in the Virgin Islands. He runs youth programs for at-risk youths ages 13 to 17 and oversees a program for young adults aged 18 to 29, helping them re-enter the workforce through training and internships. He loves his job and wouldn’t trade it for anything.
Darnell encourages current students to use the resources available to them and to never be afraid to ask questions. He extends a heartfelt thank you to the entire Monroe community, especially Coach Melendez and Shenique Rojas, for their unwavering support to help him reach his success.
