David Barton

The school has helped me tremendously, from having strong writing skills to being able to create policy at work.”

David Barton earned his Associate and Bachelor’s degrees in Criminal Justice summa cum laude from Monroe. He is currently Senior Associate Director safety security, Chief of Hospital Police & emergency management for NYC Health & Hospitals. Previously, he was the Director of Security for Westhab.

David served in the U.S. Navy for five years, including four years in the Military Police, and was deployed in Iraq for almost 10 months. During his time at Monroe, David was eager to become a member of the Veteran’s Club.

Attending Monroe ignited David's passion for education and learning. He feels the professors made learning engaging and personalized the classes. His time at Monroe has enhanced his leadership skills at work, enabling him to write policies for the hospital and positively impact the community.

Before attending Monroe, David was juggling five different jobs and felt very frustrated. Realizing he needed an education to achieve his goals, he applied to Monroe. Monroe supported him throughout the application process and provided extensive assistance for veterans, including navigating benefits like the post 9/11 GI Bill. David valued the Veteran’s culture at Monroe, which helped him form close friendships and attend school without financial worries.

Reflecting on his journey, David, a Bronx native, acknowledges that he never thought college was for him. Now, he has completed his Master’s degree and credits Monroe for helping him reach his current position. His education at Monroe has strengthened his writing skills and ability to create policy at work, making him a well-rounded individual dedicated to making a difference in his community every day.
