Dean Layla Qaabidh Named "Nurse Educator of the Year"
Congratulations to Dr. Layla Qaabidh, the dean of our School of Nursing!
She was named the "Nurse Educator of the Year" by the Greater NY Chapter of the National Black Nurses Association at the organization's formal gala earlier this month.
Additionally, two of our nursing students -- Aissatou Ka and Angel Negron -- earned generous scholarships to support their continued education. The announcement was made at the same annual event, which carried the theme "Building Resilience" this year.
Those who have had the pleasure to work with Dr. Qaabidh, either as colleagues or as students under her wing, would no doubt echo this latest accolade she has received.
A consummate professional and energetic, inspirational educator, her passion for helping students become confident, career-ready nurses who are well-prepared for the rigors of the nursing profession is abundantly clear.
Prior to joining Monroe in April of this year, Dr. Qaabidh was Associate Dean at the Helene Fuld College of Nursing. She had earlier held the position there of Associate Professor and Director of its RN to BS Program. She taught at the University of New Rochelle and Westchester Community College earlier in her career.
Outside the classrooms of academia, Dr. Qaabidh also held nursing administration positions at New York-Presbyterian Hospital and Montefiore Health System, where she no doubt served as mentor and role model to many new to the nursing profession.
Well done, Dean Qaabidh!
Warm congratulations to our two scholarship recipients as well!
