Monroe's Homecoming Spirit Shines Through Rainy Homecoming Game

It was a wet and gray day at New Rochelle’s Flowers (City) Park last Saturday, but the weather certainly didn’t stop students, faculty, staff, and alumni from coming out to show their Monroe University pride at the annual Homecoming football game.

The Mustangs faced New Jersey’s Sussex County Community College, with kickoff at 1:00 pm. Mother Nature must be a football fan as there was enough of a break in the weather to rally people to come out and fill the bleachers.

Free shuttle bus service from Allison Hall in New Rochelle made getting to the game located one mile from campus easy and convenient. Free food from the concessionaire for the Monroe community courtesy of the University made the day tasty indeed. Food tickets were provided to students, staff, and faculty either on the shuttle bus or upon arrival at Joseph F. Fosina Field.

There was plenty of action on the field and off. During the game, Lady MAC and accompanying staff members kept everyone excited with plenty of free swag thrown into the crowds. Rumor has it candy bars were tossed out as well.

At halftime, the Marching Band and accompanying dance squad took to the field to dazzle spectators with their musicianship and choreography. Kudos to Marching Band Director Gary Hollander and all the talented students for a great show!

As you’ll read, the final score -- Sussex County Community College 22, Monroe University 13 – wasn’t quite what we’d hoped for (just like the weather). However, it was a terrific day nonetheless. Both teams played beautifully and were a pleasure to watch.

We’ll get them next time, Mustangs!
