Rachel Barker

“I love diversity. I think it’s so cool to walk down the street and hear five different languages spoken!”

Rachel Barker, originally from a relatively big city in Saskatchewan, Canada, has found life in New York to be delightfully surprising. She loves the diversity and finds it exciting to hear multiple languages spoken on the streets and to experience things in the city that she couldn’t find elsewhere.

Softball initially brought Rachel to Monroe University. A friend from Canada, who was on the team, had "nothing but good things” to say about the school and the pride students took in the team.

Being the youngest of six, Rachel found it different not being around family. However, the transition to Monroe was surprisingly easy, and both the faculty and staff had been really helpful whenever she had a question. Even during the registration process, she always received quick responses to her questions, which was comforting. Since the professors of her hour and a half marketing class made the material so engaging, she feels like it is only 20 minutes.

Rachel graduated in 2021 with an Associate in Business Administration and Management. She then went on to receive her Bachelor’s in Multi/Interdisciplinary Studies. Despite the demanding workouts and practices for the team, she finds her classes rewarding.

After graduation, Rachel decided to move back to Canada for work. Today, she is working as an Administrative Assistant at McDougall Gauley.
