School of Criminal and Social Justice Hosts Bail Reform Panel
Our School of Criminal and Social Justice continues its impressive work to facilitate important conversations about today’s big issues. Late last month, they hosted the University’s first annual Bail Reform Symposium. Facilitated by Dr. Militza Gonzalez, the panel discussed why bail reform is needed and some of the proposals on the table to fix the flaws in the current system. Approximately 250 CJ students attended the event. The panelists were: David Long (Executive Director, Liberty Fund and a prior member of our SCJ faculty); Insha Rahman (Program Director, Vera Institute of Justice); Timothy Rountree (Attorney-in-Charge, Legal Aid Society Criminal Defense Practice - Queens) and Catherine Alexander (Regional Director, NYC Criminal Justice Agency). Thanks to Dean Guylaine Harrison and the School of Criminal and Social Justice for arranging this timely conversation.
